Polymarket Data Reveals Slim Odds for Professional Trading Success

A comprehensive analysis of Polymarket trading data suggests that the prospect of quitting a traditional career to trade prediction markets is unrealistic for nearly all participants. While the platform has seen rapid growth as a tool for speculating on political, financial, and cultural events, sustainable profitability remains elusive for the retail crowd. Data provided by analyst Andrey Sergeenkov indicates a steep drop-off in consistency. Although approximately 16% of users are currently in profit, the number of traders capable of replacing a standard US monthly salary—estimated at $5,220—is negligible. The study found that while 1% of traders earned over $5,000 in a single month, only 0.1% repeated the feat the following month. Just 0.015% of users maintained this level of income for four consecutive months. Furthermore, only 840 wallets, or 0.033% of the user base, have realized profits exceeding $100,000. The analysis also highlights a lack of longevity among successful traders. Only 2.6% of those averaging monthly profits above $5,000 remained active for more than a year. This suggests that even high-earners often exit the market quickly, while less experienced retail users struggle to find a winning strategy.
