Google is expanding its long-standing relationship with Intel, committing to the use of several generations of Intel central processing units (CPUs) to power its artificial intelligence data centers. The agreement specifically integrates Intel's latest Xeon 6 CPUs to handle AI training and inference workloads, providing the chipmaker a stronger foothold in a market currently dominated by Nvidia. The partnership comes as the AI industry recognizes a shift in hardware requirements. While GPUs have dominated the initial AI wave, industry experts suggest that CPUs are becoming the primary bottleneck for 'agentic' workloads, which require more balanced system architectures to scale effectively. For Intel, the deal provides critical validation of its 18A technology produced at its Arizona fabrication plant.
