Amazon Pharmacy Expands GLP-1 Portfolio with Eli Lilly’s Foundayo Oral Treatment

Amazon.com, Inc. has announced that its pharmacy division now carries Foundayo, a once-daily oral GLP-1 medication developed by Eli Lilly and Company for the treatment of obesity and overweight adults with related health conditions. The move represents a strategic expansion of Amazon's healthcare footprint, combining high-demand pharmaceutical products with the company's industry-leading logistics infrastructure to lower barriers to access for patients. Pricing for the medication starts at $25 per month for customers with insurance, while cash-paying patients will face a monthly cost of $149. To facilitate rapid access, Amazon is utilizing its delivery network to provide same-day service in nearly 3,000 cities and towns, with a target to reach 4,500 locations by the end of the year. In more remote areas, delivery windows will range from one to three days. This is not Amazon's first foray into the GLP-1 market, as the company has offered similar medications since 2021. The current rollout includes 24/7 access to licensed pharmacists and integration with LillyDirect to streamline the delivery process for insured patients. While the addition of a single drug is an incremental step for a conglomerate of Amazon's size, the focus on the lucrative GLP-1 sector highlights the company's intent to disrupt traditional pharmacy models. Amazon shares recently closed at $221.25, reflecting a 3.5% increase.
