FTSE 100 Recovers Early Losses Amid Middle East Ceasefire Hopes

The FTSE 100 reversed an early dip on Friday morning, moving into positive territory as buyers returned to financial, mining, and industrial sectors. The index, which initially edged down to 10,580.37, climbed 35.21 points, or 0.33%, to reach 10,638.69 by late morning. Market sentiment remains cautious as investors monitor geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Traders are specifically focusing on upcoming U.S.-Iran diplomatic discussions and reports that Lebanon intends to participate in meetings in Washington with U.S. and Israeli representatives to negotiate a ceasefire. Individual equity performance was mixed. Convatec Group led the gainers with a 4.5% surge, while Kingfisher, Coca-Cola HBC, and Burberry Group each saw increases between 3.3% and 3.6%. Other notable gains between 1.4% and 2.5% were seen in Standard Chartered, Barclays, Natwest Group, and Antofagasta. Conversely, the defense and energy sectors faced selling pressure. Metlen Energy & Metals fell 4.4%, while BAE Systems and Babcock International dropped 3.6% and 3.1%, respectively. Energy majors including BP and Shell also traded lower, sliding between 0.7% and 1.3%.
