Microsoft's OpenAI Stake Provides Strategic Entry Point Ahead of Potential IPO

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) continues to solidify its position as the primary gateway for public investors seeking exposure to OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, ahead of a projected initial public offering. Following a restructuring process, it has been confirmed that Microsoft owns approximately 27% of OpenAI. This stake is particularly significant given OpenAI's recent funding activity; the company raised $122 billion in March, bringing its total valuation to roughly $852 billion. Microsoft's investment is currently valued at $230 billion, representing nearly 10% of the tech giant's $2.8 trillion market capitalization. Despite this massive asset, the value remains largely unrealized as OpenAI is not yet profitable and remains a private entity.
