ActBlue Reports Record Q1 Fundraising Amid Federal Scrutiny

ActBlue has reported a record-breaking first quarter for the current midterm election cycle, raising a total of $568 million. This figure represents a 50% increase compared to the same period during the 2022 midterms, signaling strong grassroots momentum. The platform, which specializes in small-dollar contributions, saw a broad distribution of funds. Federal candidates received $391 million, while state and local candidates were allocated $119 million. An additional $58 million was directed toward civic organizations and charities. According to the organization, the total was comprised of 15 million individual contributions, including 686,000 new donors. The average contribution amount stood at $38, underscoring the platform's reliance on a high volume of small-scale donors rather than large corporate PACs. Despite the financial growth, ActBlue is currently under investigation by the Justice Department and congressional Republicans. The probe focuses on whether the platform's security measures are sufficient to prevent illegal contributions from foreign entities, which would violate Federal Election Commission requirements. In response to the scrutiny, ActBlue's Vice President of Engineering, Jason Wong, stated that the platform has integrated robust safeguards across all layers to protect the integrity of its infrastructure and stay ahead of emerging threats.
