ClearBank Europe Becomes First Dutch Bank Approved for MiCA Crypto Services

ClearBank Europe is set to bridge the gap between traditional banking and digital assets after becoming the first Dutch credit institution authorized to provide crypto services under the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation. The approval from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) allows the firm to operate as a crypto asset service provider (CASP) without requiring a separate license. This regulatory milestone enables ClearBank to integrate digital asset capabilities directly into its regulated clearing environment. By linking traditional clearing systems with blockchain networks, the bank aims to significantly reduce settlement times and enhance the efficiency of cross-border transfers for its institutional client base. The bank, which manages over $13 billion in assets and serves more than 270 institutional clients, will utilize Circle Internet’s Mint platform. This integration provides clients with direct access to USDC and EURC, stablecoins pegged to the U.S. dollar and euro, respectively. This move is part of a broader strategic push into digital clearing. ClearBank has already established partnerships with Coinbase in the U.K. and digital infrastructure provider Taurus to expand its payments and digital asset offerings across both the U.K. and European markets. The rollout signals a growing trend of regulated financial institutions adopting blockchain rails for value transfer. By joining the Circle Payment Network, ClearBank is positioning itself at the forefront of near-instant global value transfers within a compliant framework.
