The organization has advised all users to refrain from visiting the platform's website, swap.cow.fi, until the situation is resolved. The decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) managing the project confirmed that the incident involved a Domain Name System (DNS) hijacking. In response, the team has paused the platform's backend and APIs to prevent further exploitation and protect user assets from potential phishing attempts. The security breach had an immediate impact on the project's native token. The COW token price declined by more than 3%, falling from $0.2229 to $0.2159 following the announcement. This incident highlights ongoing vulnerabilities within the DeFi ecosystem. According to data from security firm Hacken, Web3 projects lost approximately $482 million to scams and hacks during the first quarter of 2026, with phishing and social engineering remaining the primary vectors of attack.
