BYD Expands European Footprint with First Passenger EV Plant in Hungary

BYD has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art electric vehicle production facility in Szeged, Hungary, marking the company's first foray into passenger car manufacturing within the European region. The plant will be developed in stages, utilizing automated production lines and leveraging BYD's global manufacturing expertise to scale operations. The strategic selection of Hungary was driven by the nation's deep-rooted automotive heritage, its central geographic position within Europe, and its well-established infrastructure. This investment is expected to foster closer technological cooperation between China and Hungary while driving regional innovation. From an economic perspective, the project is projected to generate thousands of jobs and provide a significant boost to local suppliers. By establishing a local production hub, BYD aims to streamline its logistics and better penetrate the European market, where it already maintains a presence of over 230 retail locations across 19 countries. The company currently offers a diverse lineup in Europe, including the HAN, TANG, ATTO 3, SEAL, and DOLPHIN models, with further additions planned for the coming year. This factory is a cornerstone of BYD's broader global strategy to reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the transition to cleaner energy solutions.
