American Express to Integrate AI Capabilities via Hypercard Acquisition

American Express Co. (AXP) announced on Thursday its agreement to acquire Hypercard, a specialized platform focusing on AI-powered expense management. The acquisition is designed to bolster the company's artificial intelligence expertise and expand its capabilities within the commercial services sector. Founded in 2022, Hypercard has distinguished itself by transitioning traditional manual expense reporting into autonomous workflows. The platform utilizes native AI agents to automatically categorize expenses, verify them against corporate budgets and policies, and manage submission reminders for users. This acquisition follows a strategic partnership established in 2024, during which the two companies launched the Hypercard Rewards American Express card. That initiative utilized the Agile Partner Platform to embed AI-powered expense agents directly into the user experience. By absorbing Hypercard's team of AI specialists, American Express intends to accelerate the development of agentic tools that simplify operational complexities for its business clients. The transaction is expected to close within the second quarter of 2026, subject to standard closing conditions.
