Anthropic CEO to Meet White House as 'Mythos' Model Thaws Government Relations

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is scheduled to meet with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles this Friday. The discussion will center on 'Mythos,' a powerful new AI model designed specifically to identify software vulnerabilities and security flaws. This meeting marks a significant shift in the relationship between the AI developer and the U.S. government. Only weeks ago, the Trump administration had blacklisted Anthropic, labeling the company a national security risk and stating the administration would cease doing business with the firm. The friction stemmed from a dispute with the Department of Defense (DOD). While the DOD sought unfettered access to Anthropic's models for all lawful purposes, the company demanded guarantees that its technology would not be utilized for domestic mass surveillance or fully autonomous weaponry. This impasse led the DOD to declare Anthropic a supply chain risk in early March, a designation that requires defense contractors to certify they are not using Claude AI models in military work. Despite this, and ongoing lawsuits in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., to reverse the blacklisting, the capabilities of Mythos appear to be facilitating a diplomatic opening. High-level officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Fed Chair Jerome Powell, have recently engaged with the heads of major U.S. banks regarding the model. Additionally, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary Bessent previously met with Amodei and OpenAI's Sam Altman to discuss AI cybersecurity. Anthropic is currently deploying Mythos to a limited group of companies as part of a cybersecurity initiative and has no current plans for a public release.
