Wrapped XRP Debuts on Solana to Expand DeFi Utility

Wrapped XRP (wXRP) is now live on the Solana network, marking a significant expansion in the token's utility. Issued by custodian Hex Trust and bridged through the LayerZero protocol, the asset is now integrated into several of Solana's prominent DeFi applications, including Jupiter, Phantom, Titan Exchange, and Meteora. This integration allows XRP holders to utilize their assets within the Solana ecosystem without needing to sell their underlying XRP positions. The move reflects a growing trend of cross-chaining assets to capture liquidity and yield opportunities that were unavailable on their native chains at launch. According to Hex Trust, each wXRP token is backed 1:1 by native XRP held in segregated custody accounts and remains redeemable at any time. This launch is part of a strategic rollout initiated in December 2025, which intends to bring wrapped versions of the asset to Ethereum, Optimism, and HyperEVM. While XRP has traditionally functioned as a payment-rail token settled on the XRP Ledger, Solana provides a high-throughput environment optimized for smart contracts and DeFi activity. The infrastructure is powered by LayerZero, a cross-chain messaging protocol that has gained significant market share following security failures in older bridging protocols between 2022 and 2024. The ultimate success of the initiative depends on whether XRP holders actively migrate their assets to the Solana ecosystem to engage with its DeFi tools and liquidity pools.
