Vulcan Energy (VUL.AX) has entered into a project framework agreement with Siemens AG valued at approximately €40 million. The partnership focuses on the delivery of engineering, automation, and telecommunications systems for the Lionheart Project located in Germany's Upper Rhine Valley. The Lionheart Project is an integrated venture designed to produce 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate annually. This output is estimated to be sufficient for the production of roughly 500,000 electric vehicle batteries, positioning Vulcan as a key player in the European battery supply chain. Siemens will act as the Main Automation Contractor (MAC), overseeing the upstream Lithium Extraction Plant in Landau and the downstream Central Lithium Plant at Industrial Park Höchst in Frankfurt. The scope of work includes distributed control systems, cybersecurity infrastructure, and building automation. Beyond lithium, the project aims to provide 275 GWh of renewable power and 560 GWh of heat annually to local consumers over a projected 30-year lifespan. With this agreement, Vulcan has finalized its primary supply contracts, clearing a significant operational hurdle for the project's development.
