Saronic Secures $1.75 Billion to Scale Autonomous Naval Fleet

Saronic, a specialized defense contractor focused on autonomous naval vessels, has secured $1.75 billion in private financing to scale its production capabilities. The funding round, backed by prominent venture capital firms including Andreessen Horowitz, Advent International, and Franklin Templeton, values the company at $9.25 billion. Founded by former Navy SEAL Dino Mavrookas, Saronic is positioning itself as a pure-play provider of robotic warships. Its product line ranges from the 24-foot Corsair speedboat to the 180-foot Marauder. The Marauder is particularly notable for its capacity to carry four rocket launching systems, totaling 16 cruise missiles. The company is leveraging a $392 million U.S. Navy contract awarded in December to expand its Franklin, Louisiana, shipyard with a $300 million investment. This facility is expected to increase Corsair production from 1,000 to 2,000 units annually. Additionally, Saronic is developing a new shipyard, Port Alpha, to support the production of 20 Marauder vessels per year by next year. While Saronic remains private, its rapid growth and scaling efforts challenge established defense giants such as General Dynamics, Huntington Ingalls, L3Harris, and Leidos. Although no official IPO date has been announced, the company's high valuation and the availability of shares on private trading markets suggest a potential public offering may be on the horizon.
