Quantum Race: D-Wave Outpaces Rigetti in Revenue Scaling

The competitive landscape for quantum computing is intensifying as D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) and Rigetti Computing (RGTI) vie for market dominance in an early-stage industry. While both companies have seen significant stock price appreciation over the past year, their financial trajectories reveal a widening gap in revenue generation. For investors, the primary metric of success in this speculative sector has shifted from immediate profitability to the ability to scale. Both firms are currently reporting substantial net losses, making top-line growth the key indicator of product marketability and customer adoption. Financial data indicates that D-Wave reported $24 million in revenue last year, significantly outpacing Rigetti’s $7 million. D-Wave's 2025 revenue surged 179% over 2024, although this growth was heavily influenced by a $15 million spike in the first quarter. In terms of recent losses, D-Wave reported a net loss of approximately $42 million for the quarter ending December 31, 2025, while Rigetti reported a net loss of $18 million for the same period. Rigetti is currently focusing on the deployment of its 108-qubit system to bridge the gap. Meanwhile, D-Wave is leveraging its gate-model systems to attract enterprise interest. With RGTI up 135% and QBTS up 237% over the last year, the market is pricing in high growth, but extreme revenue volatility remains a systemic risk for both players as they seek wide adoption.
