Hyundai and TVS Motor Partner to Scale Electric Three-Wheelers in India

Hyundai Motor and TVS Motor have officially signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) aimed at the creation and commercialization of electric three-wheeler (E3W) solutions. The partnership is designed to target the Indian market specifically, with plans to expand into additional international territories. This strategic alliance leverages the complementary strengths of both firms to accelerate the transition to electric mobility in one of the world's fastest-growing automotive markets. By combining global design standards with local operational expertise, the companies aim to capture a significant share of the commercial EV segment. Under the terms of the agreement, Hyundai Motor will spearhead the design process and co-develop the E3W. The company will utilize its research and development capabilities, human-centric design philosophy, and advanced mobility technologies to shape the product. Conversely, TVS Motor will contribute its existing electric platform and specialized three-wheeler engineering expertise. TVS is tasked with leading local sales efforts and utilizing its Indian manufacturing infrastructure to meet domestic demand and facilitate future exports. Following the announcement, Hyundai Motor shares were trading at 5,37,000 won, reflecting a 1.90% increase. The move signals Hyundai's commitment to diversifying its EV portfolio beyond passenger cars into the critical last-mile delivery and transit sectors in emerging markets.
