Apple Names Hardware Chief John Ternus as Next CEO

Ternus, 50, is a 25-year Apple veteran who rose through the ranks starting as a design engineer in 2001. He has been a primary architect of the company's hardware ecosystem, overseeing the development of the iPhone, iPad, and AirPods, as well as the critical transition to Apple Silicon. The incoming CEO inherits a critical mandate: revamping Apple's artificial intelligence strategy. The company has faced mounting pressure to innovate in a space where it is viewed as lagging behind its megacap peers, recently enlisting Google's Gemini to bolster its Siri capabilities. A mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Pennsylvania, Ternus has cited the mentorship of both Steve Jobs and Tim Cook as pivotal to his professional growth. Before joining Apple, he worked at Virtual Research, an early firm specializing in virtual reality headsets.
