Marvell Expands AI Data Center Capabilities via Polariton Technologies Acquisition

Marvell Technology, Inc. (MRVL) has announced the acquisition of Polariton Technologies, a developer specializing in plasmonics-based silicon photonics devices. The strategic move is designed to strengthen Marvell's optical technology offerings, specifically targeting the evolving needs of AI-driven data center infrastructure. The acquisition integrates Polariton's advanced modulation technology into Marvell's existing ecosystem. This technology is critical for next-generation coherent and data center interconnect (DCI) platforms, including ZR and ZR+ applications, which are essential for high-speed data transmission across large-scale networks. By leveraging plasmonics, Marvell expects to deliver ultra-fast, energy-efficient optical signaling in a compact form factor. This capability is vital as the industry shifts toward 1.6T connectivity and prepares for the eventual transition to 3.2T and beyond, requiring significantly higher bandwidth and lower power consumption. The integration of Polariton's expertise in high-speed optical modulation with Marvell's digital signal processing (DSP) and silicon photonics capabilities is expected to produce scalable solutions for scale-across and DCI platforms.
