AI developer Anthropic is recruiting specialized talent to secure data center capacity across Europe. The move signals a broader push to scale compute power amid a global surge in AI infrastructure spending.

  • Recruiting for a London-based role paying between £225,000 and £270,000
  • Focus on FLAP-D hubs and Nordic regions for energy efficiency
  • Part of a broader $600 billion industry-wide infrastructure boom
  • Complementary to existing $100 billion AWS commitment
  • Strategic diversification into Australia and Europe to avoid regional bottlenecks

Anthropic is aggressively expanding its physical footprint in Europe, seeking a high-level Transaction Principal to lead the sourcing and execution of data center deals. The role, based in London, focuses on securing the critical compute capacity necessary to power the company's frontier AI models. This expansion comes as U.S. hyperscalers are projected to spend over $600 billion on AI infrastructure by 2026. Anthropic is positioning itself to capture this growth, following significant domestic investments and a commitment to spend more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) technology over the next decade. The company also recently expanded its partnership with Broadcom for approximately 3.5 gigawatts of computing capacity. The new role will target 'FLAP-D' hubs—Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin—as well as the Nordics and Southern Europe. The Nordics, in particular, have become attractive due to lower energy costs, a trend already leveraged by Microsoft and Nebius, the latter of which is building one of Europe's largest AI factories in Finland. The race for compute capacity remains fierce, though not without hurdles. While Anthropic scales, competitors like OpenAI have faced setbacks, including the halting of the 'Stargate' project in the UK due to regulatory and energy cost concerns. Anthropic's move to hire in both Europe and Australia underscores a global strategy to diversify and secure its hardware supply chain.
