Pakistan is taking emergency measures to stabilize its energy grid, purchasing a shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market. The procurement, handled by Pakistan LNG Ltd., involves a shipment from TotalEnergies SE scheduled for delivery between April 27 and April 30. This represents a significant shift in procurement strategy, as the country had avoided the volatile and typically more expensive spot market for over two years. The purchase was finalized via a tender process that closed last Friday. While the state entity sought multiple shipments to bolster its reserves, traders indicate that Pakistan ultimately opted to purchase only one, declining two other potential shipments from the same tender. The reliance on spot cargoes highlights the vulnerability of Pakistan's energy infrastructure to regional conflicts.
