Tesla has begun integrating xAI's Grok chatbot into its vehicle fleet, offering drivers a voice-activated AI assistant capable of handling everything from navigation to general knowledge queries. The rollout, which commenced in July 2025, follows a $2 billion investment by Tesla into xAI. While the feature is designed to reduce phone usage by providing hands-free information, safety experts warn it may introduce new forms of cognitive distraction. Users report that Grok has become a primary source of in-car entertainment, often used while the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system—priced at $99 per month in the U.S.—is engaged. However, this combination may lead to driver complacency.
