Indian benchmark indices climbed on Monday following optimistic remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the conflict in Iran. The rally was further supported by a major acquisition in the pharmaceutical sector despite mixed corporate earnings.

  • BSE Sensex rose 628 points to 77,293
  • NSE Nifty surged 203 points to 24,101
  • Sun Pharma acquires Organon & Co in all-cash deal
  • RBI revokes Paytm Payments Bank license
  • Reliance Industries net profit declines 13% YoY
  • NTPC plans Rs. 25,000 crore nuclear investment

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty both surged 0.8% in early trade, reflecting a risk-on sentiment across Indian markets. The rally was triggered by statements from U.S. President Donald Trump, who indicated that the conflict in Iran is nearing a conclusion with a projected U.S. victory. This shift in sentiment follows the cancellation of a planned diplomatic mission to Pakistan intended for peace talks with Iran. In the corporate sphere, Sun Pharma saw a 7% jump after announcing a definitive all-cash agreement to acquire New Jersey-based Organon & Co. Other notable gainers included Infosys, Tata Steel, and Tech Mahindra, which all rose between 2% and 3%. Additionally, IDFC First Bank rallied 3.5% after reporting a 5% growth in quarterly profit. However, the broader market saw divergent results from heavyweights. Reliance Industries shares dipped following a 13% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit, while Axis Bank fell 4% after reporting a marginal decline in Q4FY26 net profit. Regulatory headwinds hit the fintech sector as Paytm shares plummeted 5.5% after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revoked the banking license of its associate entity, Paytm Payments Bank. Meanwhile, NTPC shares rose 1% on reports of a planned Rs. 25,000 crore investment to develop two 700 MW nuclear power units in Bihar.
