WeRide and Lenovo Target 200,000 Autonomous Vehicle Deployments Globally

WeRide Inc. (WRD) and Lenovo have announced a significant expansion of their collaboration to accelerate the commercialization of Level 4 autonomous driving. Unveiled at Auto China 2026, the partnership sets a target to deploy 200,000 autonomous vehicles across global markets starting in 2026, marking one of the industry's most ambitious rollout efforts to date. The initiative focuses on scaling robotaxis and other autonomous mobility services. By combining WeRide's operational presence in over 40 cities across 12 countries with Lenovo's AI computing, engineering, and manufacturing infrastructure, the companies intend to build a comprehensive global ecosystem to improve deployment efficiency. A central technical component of the rollout is the jointly developed HPC 3.0 high-performance computing platform. Powered by NVIDIA's DRIVE AGX Thor chip, the system delivers over 2,000 TOPS of computing power, which the companies claim significantly reduces system costs compared to previous iterations. Looking forward, the partnership will extend beyond passenger robotaxis to include other Level 4 applications, such as autonomous minibuses and sanitation units. This diversified approach aims to broaden the utility of intelligent mobility in urban environments. While the scale of the deployment is substantial, the ultimate success of the venture will depend on navigating diverse regulatory landscapes across the 12 target countries and maintaining the specialized AI hardware supply chain required for such a massive fleet.
