Hungary's Paks Nuclear Plant to Reduce Block 2 Output for Maintenance

Hungary's nuclear energy authority has announced a partial reduction in power output at the Paks nuclear power plant, the nation's sole atomic energy facility. Starting April 29, Block 2 will operate at 50% capacity to facilitate essential repairs on a generator support system. The Paks plant is a cornerstone of Hungary's energy infrastructure, responsible for generating approximately half of the country's total electricity. The facility consists of four separate blocks, each with a standard output of 500 megawatts. The planned maintenance will specifically target the second block, resulting in a loss of 250 megawatts of capacity. This operational adjustment is part of the authority's efforts to maintain the integrity and safety of the generator support systems. While the reduction represents a fraction of the plant's total output, the heavy reliance on Paks for national power means such adjustments are closely monitored by energy regulators.
