Unum Group (UNM) has announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2026, highlighting a period of growth in core operations. The insurance provider reported total revenue of $3.36 billion, marking a notable increase from the $3.09 billion recorded in the same period last year. The growth was primarily fueled by a rise in premium income, which climbed to $2.79 billion from $2.70 billion year-over-year. This operational strength helped offset a decline in net investment income, which fell to $483.4 million from $513.2 million. Bottom-line performance showed strong improvement, with net income rising to $232.0 million, up from $189.1 million in Q1 2025. Consequently, earnings per share (EPS) grew to $1.41, compared to $1.06 in the prior-year quarter. A critical highlight of the report was the drastic reduction in net investment losses, which plummeted to $5.0 million from a substantial $206.8 million loss in the previous year. Despite the positive earnings beat, UNM shares traded slightly lower in after-hours activity, dipping 1.11% to $76.96.
