Ukraine Targets Russian Oil Infrastructure in Deep-Territory Strike

Ukraine has expanded its campaign against Russian energy infrastructure, targeting a critical oil pumping station deep within Russian territory and a sanctioned tanker operating in the Black Sea. The operation marks a significant escalation in the reach of Ukrainian long-range capabilities. The strike on the Perm region facility is particularly notable due to its location, situated more than 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), overnight drone attacks successfully ignited the majority of the reservoirs at the facility, which is operated by Transneft PJSC. These claims are supported by NASA FIRMS satellite imagery from April 29, which detected a heat anomaly over the station, located approximately 24 kilometers from the city of Perm. The use of satellite verification adds a layer of technical confirmation to the SBU's reports of significant fire damage. Simultaneously, the targeting of a sanctioned tanker in the Black Sea further complicates Russia's efforts to export energy and bypass international trade restrictions. While the immediate impact on global oil volumes may be limited, the ability to strike strategic assets far from the front lines increases the risk profile for Russian energy infrastructure.
