U.S. Housing Starts Surge in March Amid Sharp Decline in Building Permits

The U.S. Department of Commerce reported a stark divergence in the residential construction sector for March, characterized by a surge in current activity paired with a decline in future authorizations. This data highlights a volatile transition in the housing market, where immediate construction momentum remains strong, but the pipeline for new projects is narrowing. According to the report, housing starts climbed 10.8% to an annual rate of 1.502 million, significantly outpacing the 1.400 million forecast by economists.
