A Japan-linked supertanker has completed a rare passage through the Strait of Hormuz, navigating a region that has remained largely closed to international maritime traffic for nearly three months. The vessel, identified as the Idemitsu Maru, transported roughly 2 million barrels of Saudi Arabian crude oil. To facilitate the exit, the tanker followed a specific route approved by Tehran, which required the vessel to pass in close proximity to Iran's Larak and Qeshm Islands. This movement represents a significant anomaly in current shipping patterns within the Persian Gulf. The Idemitsu Maru was the first tanker associated with Japan to successfully cross the strait since the effective closure began in late February. Furthermore, it was the only non-Iranian very large crude carrier (VLCC) to depart the region within the last ten days.
