IBM Scales Quantum and Semiconductor Footprint with New Chicago Innovation Hub

International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) has announced the establishment of the FutureNow Chicago center, a strategic expansion of its quantum and microelectronics campus in Illinois. The initiative aims to solidify the company's leadership in advanced computing while fostering a specialized technical workforce in the Midwest. Located within the 128-acre Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park on Chicago's South Side, the hub will serve as a delivery and innovation center. The facility is designed to assist IBM's clients and partners in solving complex technical and business challenges specifically within the semiconductor and quantum spaces. The expansion is supported by approximately $19 million in state tax credits. To ensure a sustainable pipeline of skilled labor, IBM is partnering with the City Colleges of Chicago to launch a dedicated apprenticeship program, with a formal commitment to hire graduates from the initiative. CEO Arvind Krishna stated that the project will enhance the company's delivery capabilities and cultivate the next generation of tech talent. The first phase of the larger technology campus is slated for completion by 2027, positioning Chicago as a central node for innovation in advanced semiconductor technologies and quantum computing.
