Portland General Electric reported a decline in first-quarter net income and revenue due to lower seasonal energy demand. Despite the quarterly miss, the company reaffirmed its full-year earnings outlook for 2026.

  • Net profit dropped to $0.38 per share from $0.91 per share YoY
  • Revenue fell to $879 million from $928 million
  • Industrial demand grew 10% QoQ via data center expansion
  • Full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance remains $3.33 to $3.53
  • Shares fell nearly 5% in pre-market trading

Portland General Electric (POR) saw its first-quarter profitability slide as an unusually mild winter reduced energy consumption across residential and commercial sectors. The utility provider reported a significant drop in net profit, though it highlighted growth in industrial demand, particularly from the high-tech and data center sectors, which helped offset some of the seasonal losses. Financial results for the quarter show net profit fell to $45 million, or $0.38 per share, compared to $100 million or $0.91 per share in the same period last year. Revenue also declined to $879 million from $928 million. On an adjusted basis, the company posted net income of $68 million, or $0.58 per share. CEO Maria Pope attributed the results to weather patterns but emphasized that strong operational performance and cost controls are helping the company navigate the impact of the mild winter. The company noted that while residential and commercial usage was down, industrial demand rose 10% quarter-over-quarter. Looking forward, PGE reaffirmed its fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings guidance of $3.33 to $3.53 per diluted share. This outlook is based on assumptions of normal temperatures and weather-adjusted energy delivery growth between 1.5% and 2.5%. Shares of POR reacted negatively to the earnings report, falling 4.95% in pre-market trading to $49.35, erasing gains from the previous trading session.
