Ark Invest Forecasts Bitcoin Market Cap to Surge to $16 Trillion by 2030

Ark Invest predicts that Bitcoin's market capitalization will climb to $16 trillion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of approximately 63%. In its annual 'Big Ideas' research report, the firm argues that the cryptocurrency is maturing into a legitimate institutional asset class, shifting away from its perception as a purely speculative instrument. The growth is expected to be fueled by Bitcoin's adoption as 'digital gold' and a reserve asset. Ark notes that institutional ownership is already accelerating, with U.S. ETFs and public companies holding roughly 12% of the total supply at the end of last year, up from 9% the previous year. Quantifying the potential upside, the report suggests that if Bitcoin captures 40% of gold's current $24 trillion market value, it would add nearly $10 trillion to its valuation. Additionally, a modest 2.5% penetration into $200 trillion of global portfolios could contribute another $5 trillion, while a 0.5% penetration of the $68 trillion monetary base could add $339 billion. If these projections materialize, the price of a single bitcoin could exceed $730,000, assuming all 21 million coins are in circulation. This trajectory would likely lift the broader digital asset market to a total valuation of $28 trillion by the end of the decade, up from its current estimate of $2.7 trillion.
