An AI agent developed by ClawBank has successfully registered a legal business entity with the IRS and established banking infrastructure. The entity is now positioned to execute autonomous cryptocurrency trades and financial transactions.

  • First AI agent to autonomously obtain a U.S. EIN
  • Integration of FDIC-insured banking with crypto wallets
  • Ability to transact across 30+ digital assets
  • Supports autonomous on-ramp and off-ramp financial flows
  • Signals a shift toward an agent-driven transaction economy

The landscape of autonomous finance has reached a new milestone with the emergence of Manfred, an AI agent that has independently established its own legal corporation. Developed by the infrastructure project ClawBank, Manfred has successfully obtained an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, granting it the legal capacity to operate as a business, hire personnel, and secure licenses. Beyond legal registration, the agent has integrated traditional and digital financial rails. Manfred currently maintains an FDIC-insured U.S. bank account and a dedicated cryptocurrency wallet. According to developer Justice Conder, this represents the first known instance of an AI agent autonomously completing the entire legal formation process for a corporation. While full trading integration is expected by the end of May, Manfred is already capable of transacting with more than 30 different cryptocurrencies. The agent can move assets between its crypto wallet and bank account, facilitating the onramping and offramping of funds and the conversion of assets into stablecoins. This development aligns with broader industry predictions from leaders such as Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, who have both forecasted a future where AI agents dominate internet transactions. The shift suggests a transition toward an 'agent-economy' where AI entities operate as independent economic actors without the need for human intermediaries.
