U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Integrates Bitcoin Node for Strategic Power Projection

The U.S. military has officially entered the Bitcoin peer-to-peer network, with Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S.-Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), confirming the operation of a live node. During testimony before the House and Senate Armed Services Committees, Paparo described the cryptocurrency protocol as having "incredible potential" for national security and American power projection. This disclosure marks the first public confirmation by a sitting U.S. combatant commander regarding direct military participation in the Bitcoin network. According to Paparo, the military is utilizing the node for monitoring and conducting operational tests to secure and protect networks using the Bitcoin protocol. Crucially, the Admiral clarified that the military is not engaged in mining Bitcoin, which would involve specialized hardware to earn rewards. Instead, the node allows the military to independently verify the network state and enforce protocol rules without relying on third-party intermediaries.
