Bill Ackman, the founder of Pershing Square Capital Management, continues to utilize a highly concentrated investment approach, with 62.8% of his $15 billion portfolio concentrated in just four stocks. This strategy focuses on a small number of high-conviction positions rather than broad diversification. This concentrated approach has contributed to a significant increase in Ackman's personal wealth, which grew from $4.3 billion to an estimated $9.2 billion during 2024. While many retail investors are encouraged to hold a wider array of assets to mitigate risk, Ackman's fund maintains a lean profile, holding positions in only 10 companies in total. The portfolio is heavily tilted toward the technology sector. Among its largest holdings is Meta Platforms, which accounts for 11.4% of the total portfolio. Other significant positions include Alphabet, Amazon, and Brookfield Corporation. Financial analysts suggest that while this high-conviction model has worked for Pershing Square, it may not be suitable for novice investors. For long-term individual investors, a broader base of at least 25 stocks is often recommended to maximize the probability of capturing outperforming assets while limiting the impact of a single company's decline.
